It was brought to our attention that one of our staff members who no longer resides in his home state actually has a personal story about Brett Favre, a 2016 Football Hall of fame inductee.
Brett Favre is a 2016 Hall of Fame inductee. I can remember the first time I met Brett Favre. My brother and I were either in junior high or middle school and we were water boys/mangers for our high school football team. It was Friday night football and our high school team traveled to Hancock North Central High School to play Brett’s high school football team. As one of my duties as manger I had to go to the opposing team’s field house on occasion for what ever reason the coach asked me to; so, it just so happened our team’s head football coach sent me to Hancock North Central’s field house. I knocked on the door and an unknown player to me at the time who is known to everyone now opened the door and it was Brett Favre. Whether it’s known to the general population or not the other team in high school football is the enemy; so, the reception that even a manager may get before the game is not always a good one. Nevertheless, Brett politely asked me if he could help me. I told Brett whatever it was that my team’s coach told me he needed. I was invited into their field house. I was given what I needed, and I was on my way.
After some time the two teams started playing the game. My and my brother’s duties among others consisted of providing water to the player and running new/dry/clean footballs on the field between plays. This allowed us to watch the entire game. As the game progressed, my brother and I started to marvel at Brett Favre’s football ability. Although it was a high school game, my brother and I kept looking at each other in amazement at Brett, and we continued to make the comment to each other “he, Brett, looks like a college quaterback!” Words really can’t do his play justice as my brother & me saw it. Brett appeared to have nearly our entire defensive team hanging on him trying to bring him down yet he would pass the ball accurately. Both of us were amazed!
The next time I met Brett was when I was a junior in high school. I was an all state running back in Mississippi, and I was being recruited by among others, the University Southern Mississippi football team. I went to the University of Southern Mississippi one weekend for a recruit trip and Brett Favre happen to be there. He was the same polite high school football player I had met at the Hancock North Central field house. I really appreciated both interactions.
Everyone witnessed his pro career(Green Bay, NY Jets, Atlanta Falcons, Minnesota Vikings); so, there are many stories that are highlighting his accomplishments. This is to let Brett know that we’re proud of you. We’re proud of your accomplishments. We’re big fans & we’ve always cheered for your success no matter which team you played for after high school. I really want to say Brett you’ve made us proud. From all the former players & fans of district 8 class 4A football! Congratulations on your Hall of fame induction!
