Will a Robots Workforce Replace Humans

Share

I recently watched an interview where I heard Mark Cuban talking about human jobs possibly being replaced by robots and automation. I have a bachelor’s degree and a mater’s degree in electrical engineering, and I’ve worked in the semiconductor field for sixteen years; so, I decided to investigate the topic more indepth.

From my investigation, it appears that the job trend may be heading the way of the machines. I think humans can hopefully turn the tide, but if not humans need to figure out the alternatives before our fate ends similar to the 1984 movie The Terminator.

Now that I hopefully have your attention, I’d implore you to view a few videos.  The videos should give you more insight into how some robots and or automation have already started to replace humans in the workforce.

This video shows robot in a warehouse. Many humans are employed by warehouses.

Many humans are employed by grocery stores.

Many humans are employed by restaurants in Japan.

Many humans are employed by restaurants in the United States.

Many humans are employed by the pizza delivery industry.

Bill Gates recently said  “You ought to be willing to raise the tax level and even slow down the speed” of automation, Gates argues. That’s because the technology and business cases for replacing humans in a wide range of jobs are arriving simultaneously, and it’s important to be able to manage that displacement. “You cross the threshold of job replacement of certain activities all sort of at once,” Gates says, citing warehouse work and driving as some of the job categories that in the next 20 years will have robots doing them. ”

Elon Musk recently said the following.

As I mentioned earlier in the article, I’m an electrical engineer who has been either designing or verifying chips in the  pre-silicon stage for over sixteen years. With that being said to be candid, I did not know how fast things were changing.  I had my head down working.

First I believe STEM education needs to be emphasized. I believe there are steps that humans can take to save some jobs.  Simple choosing the human worker at places like the grocery store instead of the self check out for one.  No one will invest in machines that are not being used.  This same approach of choosing the human worker can be duplicated when possible.  Contact your state and federal representatives and alert them to this topic and ask them what are their plans to help humans if robots and automation replace human workers in the near future.   I am not anti-innovation. I want to make sure humans have jobs in the future.  Look for future articles regarding this topic.  I wanted to at least write this article to alert my readers and subscribers to this new trend. This last video is a video that aired on 60 minutes in 2013.
